WiGLE WiFi: GPS SSID MAC Data Collecting App

Open source network observation, positioning, and display client from the world’s largest queryable database of wireless networks. Can be used for site-survey, security analysis, and competition with your friends. Collect networks for personal research or upload to wigle.net

The app or the website is for collecting information about the different wireless hotspots around the world. Users can register on the website and upload hotspot data like GPS coordinates, SSID, MAC address and the encryption type used on the hotspots discovered. In addition, cell tower data is uploaded and displayed.

Download the app from Google Play Store, the app is for Android only, but you can use the website if you’re using IOS:

Open the app and go to settings and register with your email and password:

Make sure to turn on the Bluetooth and the gps on your phone:

Now keep the app running for a while and you can get in your car and drive around for a bit as the app will keep scanning for Wifi, cell towers and Bluetooth devices and store them on the application, click on the upper left button UPLOAD TO WIGLE.NET and the app will make a copy of the collected data and upload it to the wigle.net under your account:

Under the View button choose Advance Search where you can make a search for a specific SSID or a cell tower in any part of the world or just around you:

You can make a search using location coordinates or using a country name beside the SSID name or the network you looking for:

Let’s say we are looking for AndroidAP as the network SSID, and for the location we can either enter the address for the place we are searching for or we can enter the Latitude and the Longitude.

In my case i will be using the latitude and the Longitude, and i got a lot of networks with the name AndoirdAP:

Under the Upload section you can find the files you uploaded from your phone and you can save them to your laptop:

Although the apps used to collect information are open sourced, the database itself is accessed and distributed under a freeware proprietary license.
